I use an animated map and three charts to argue that the future of trade with India is bright. China faces heaps of challenges and putting too many eggs in the China basket is risky. That doesn't mean to bet against China as their middle-class has the potential to grow further. Basic demographics (urbanisation rate, age profile, population size) however suggest India will be the more lucrative trade partner in the long run. This isn't an argument against China but an argument in favour of embracing India.

The skill shortage is here to stay as it is baked into the demographic pie 🥧. The big Baby Boomer cohort is retiring in the coming decade and they leave a big gap in the workforce that the small Gen Z cohort can’t fill (even with the help of migration). I described in the past that the skills shortage will persist for an uncomfortably long time. The shortage is essentially universal but in some professions the shortage worries me more than in others. The fact that we are running out of teachers is terrible and has terrible downstream consequences in our knowledge economy.
