This reminds me of what #DenisDiderot recommended to (bad) actors: to cry on stage is not to make cry.

This seems completely out of date today that it might just be worthwhile to take another look at this contrast.

Do we want uncaring creatives? No. But do ego-fixation and self-expression sometimes harm the results? Yes. Because it comes at the expense of thinking, knowledge and craft, and - worse - lessens the value of communication with others.
