Ok #demography and #fertility experts, I need your help!
I’m measuring #InfantMortality in data where we think the death count is reasonably accurate but the birth count is wildly underreported.
So we’ve had the idea of using the age 1 population plus the count of infant deaths as a #denominator.
Is this reasonable? It ignores the growth in cohort sizes (over just one year!) and deaths in the early part of age 1. Does it miss something else I’m not thinking of? Is there a better alternative?

*whispers* Pay attention to the #denominator...
"‘Disruptive’ science has declined — and no one knows why"
Remember that if not otherwise stated the #denominator is 1, or even 0. The very most selective of polling, or outright fiction. Either way it's about as ignorable as any tale of 0 or 1.
