I've just given #denote, a yet another #emacs note-taking solution, a trial. I was amazed how working such a simple notes environment can be relaxing. For anyone comfortable enough with Emacs I recommend giving denote a trial. You very well find the distraction free environment quite helpful for concentrating on developing thoughts rather than crafting systems of structured metadata. #pkm #notetaking

Mike has a similar workflow with TODOs as I do (but mine is a bit different). Since I had a conversation yesterday about how I do my organisation and note-taking with Emacs, I figured I'd show this off to my #Emacs peeps so they can see another way of doing stuff. He uses Obsidian too (which I don't use) but he has a good setup with Denote like I do.

More plaintext primitivism with Denote
Denote wants you to stick with the native tools you already have for a stripped-down PKM system.

@mitchmarq42xyz I'm not familiar with #hyperbole, just heard about it in the past but didn't give it a serious try.
What #howm allowed me to do is jot down sparse notes and look them all up later.
Some things I usually write:
- Code projects' troubleshooting guides for weird setups
- Bugs I came across when working on something -> eventually these go to the issue tracker
- Standup notes -> big life-saver, that's how I'm able to remember what I did the previous day
- TIL notes for interesting things I came across
You could do the same thing with a Bash script, some common notation/headers for each of these and good old grep. Howm offers a specific function (howm-grep) to search the notes and display them in a separate buffer. It's quick to make it recognize new keywords too.
It compares pretty closely to #denote from what I heard from other people.
@hochata I agree, #denote and #howm are pretty similar. The main difference for me is that howm comes with its own way to grep files (howm-grep) and has (howm-remember) to quickly jot down notes. All of that can be replicated in #denote as well.
For the note templates, I'm using `yasnippet` to expand snippets into a common structure or to stub source code blocks. I'm doing a lot of literate programming these days.
The curse of freedom: so many note taking systems in the emacs eco-system! All have their pros and cons, many tick the boxes of my requirements, and there can only be one in my life! Currently I gravitate towards the specific balance of simplicity and power of #denote, but the grass may be greener in other knowledge gardens...
Read the article about publishing websites with org-mode and taking notes #denote on emacs. Hopefully I can make it in some shape or form out of this learning today.

There are some personal knowledge managing packages for emacs out there, #orgroam and #denote are the ones I primarily think of.
I saw a video of a new called pkm(maybe?).
One package that sadly is not spoken about much, is "zk" , https://github.com/localauthor/zk .
I'm all for great packages but sometimes the well written, not so famous (in the emacs universe) authors are forgotten.
Please check out zk.
