I’m 31 years into teaching college students, and the architecture of the status and compensation system of US higher ed still only vaguely gestures at meaningfully assessing and improving teaching.

It’s a smidge better in this regard than it was when I was TAing in the 90s. But it’s still far, far from where it should be.
