Very cold glass, tray of ice pounded to snow, couple teaspoons of sugar in the bottom, & similar amount water. Stir. + ~6 mint leaves; muddle lightly. Pack glass with the ice. Add bourbon or w/e to your liking. Add more ice. Add your float of more booze if you want. Poke holes with your big straw for it & several more mint sprigs. Insert sprigs & straw. Enjoy. #booze #julep #mixology #cocktail #drankin #BoozeHounds #KentuckyDerby #DerbyDay
Oh, the race? Who cares? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Does that mean that horses running in the Middle East should be looked at as being overrated. No, you have the top of the top competing against each other.
It seemed like Mandarin Hero was making a move on the final turn. But it doesn’t look like he and his country mate, Deme Sotogake, were factors in the end.
Eating for my tickets to settle, but looks like winnings are $4.70, 🙃.
Anyway, like to see the final card. But looks like I’m going to have to eat my Japan thinking.
No doubt the track won today. Those are some crazy payouts. I’m happy if I can get $150 on a $0.50 Trifecta.
Hey @bullcitybrian, I almost forgot, but I just finished mowing the lawn, & I think I have enough mint. These leaves are *huge*. #DerbyDay #cocktail #MintJulep #BoozeHounds

Wow. Didn’t see that one coming. Mage at 15/1. So may have had a ticket hit, but on the lower end. Looks like we’ll end the day in the red. But have to wait for the official. Curious has to what the payouts on the exotics is going to look like.

May do some more later, if and when I look at the lines again.
Any my call for the race:
W: 14 (Angel of Empire)
P: 17 (Derma Sotogake)
S: 4 (Confidence Game)
4: 22 (Mandarin Hero)
Humm, should probably do a boxed SUPERFECTA on that
Ok, so what am I doing…
I’m taking a WPS across the board on 14 (Angel of Empire)
A WIN on 17 (Derma Sotogake)
An EXACTA boxed on the 14 & 17
And a bit of an odd ball TRIFECTA boxed:
4 (Confidence Game)
5 (Tapit Trice)
22 (Mandarin Hero)
Their is a different sort of confidence from the Japanese trainers this year that put them in legitimate contention from the derby crown.
Anyway, it feels like Japanese horses or on a tear this year. Super showings in Dubai and Saudi, not necessarily as favorites. So I’m not goi g to count them out this year in the Derby.
Mandarin here has raced pretty good in Japan, but hit 2nd in the 8 horses card for the Santa Anita Derby losing by a nose after making a hell of a move on the rail to come up from the back half of the pack.
Derma won the UAE Derby pretty convincingly and easily in a packed field. Japanese horses claimed the 1-4 in that race. Bit less of a showing at the R6 in the Saudi Cup (finished 3rd). But still a big field.
The 17 (Derma Sotogake), 7/1, & 22 (Mandarin Hero), 21/1, (JPN), I’ve always been leery about betting on the Asian horses in American stakes races. But I think I’m going to change my mind this year.
The 6 (Kings Barn), 10/1, not a lot of races, but very successful, including a win in the Louisiana Derby.
Looking through the rest of the field. The 4 (Confidence Game) looks interesting. Currently at 16/1, has strong showing in the last 4, including two races at Churchill, in decent sized fields.
