The fourth article is
“A language of wet stones and mists”: The Caribbean Poet as a Traveller in Wales and England
by Marija Bergam Pellicani
Abstract
This article examines Derek Walcott’s “travel poems” about Wales and England from the collections The Fortunate Traveller (1981) and Midsummer (1984) through the prism of Deleuze and Guattari’s concept of littérature mineure. [...] In their engagement with the Welsh and English “Elsewhere” these poems ultimately participate in transvaluation of the relationship between centre and periphery, a dynamics that marked the most significant Anglophone literary currents in the second part of the twentieth century.

There's a #poem I've been carrying in my planner for ages. I found it somewhere on the internet, did a copy/paste, and printed it out. It's marked "Unknown Author."
I've loved it so much for so long that I thought about doing something creative with it. A quick search and I know now that it's actually written by a wildly gifted and famous #poet.
I'm not sure why I'm so angry; I know how the internet can be.
Anyway, here's the #poem and a link to more information on #DerekWalcott ...
My favourite poem by Derek Walcott. A timeless tribute to finally meeting and loving oneself.

Highly esteemed St. Lucian poet, playwright, and professor Dr. Derek Walcott, the first Caribbean writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, was born on January 23, 1930.
His work illuminates Caribbean life and post-colonialism, with the sea and memory being a couple of the themes that his poetry explores.

Today's poem:
The Fist
- by Derek Walcott
The fist clenched round my heart
loosens a little, and I gasp
brightness; but it tightens
again. When have I ever not loved
the pain of love? But this has moved
past love to mania. This has the strong
clench of the madman, this is
gripping the ledge of unreason, before
plunging howling into the abyss.
Hold hard then, heart. This way at least you live.

#FairyTaleTuesday theme: Siblings
In St. Lucia's folklore, Ti Jean is a hero who used his wits to triumph over the devil. Derek Walcott's allegorical play "Ti-Jean and His Brothers" is based on this hero and the folk tale. Although Ti-Jean is the youngest of three brothers, he proves himself to be the kindest, smartest, and most resourceful. He succeeds where they fail.
