THIS TASMANIA…
By the smooth waters of the Derwent at Bridgewater, Tasmania, a Landcare group checks out what is growing along the shore.
The hills on the opposite shore show typical landuse patterns for this part of Tasmania with farming and settlement on the lower slopes and the steeper upper slopes with their thinner and rockier soils left to forest.

IN TASMANIA…
On the Derwent River in Hobart, a seaplane lands beside a container ship. This is the same aircraft that occasionally lands in the estuary where we live.
The aircraft is a Canadian manufactured de Havilland Beaver, a single-radial-engined high wing aircraft designed for short takeoff and landing (STOL). Production started in 1948 and variants are still in use although the aircraft is now out of production. The type is widely used as a bush aircraft due to its STOL and load carrying qualities as well as its durability.
A company offers flights in a float-equipped Beaver from Constitution Dock, Hobart.
