I've been somewhat inspired by the #alt4me, #desc4me and #access4me hashtags.
While not necesarily for accessibility, i thought it would be nice for those who are not able to code, to have a #code4me hashtag.
If you'd like to have a program made for you, tag it with #code4me and someone/some people may be able to work together to contribute to make it a reality.
As I would like this to be a collaborative effort I suggest that these programs be #foss.

@blind_lightning Watched! The advanced view in Mastodon Web allows people watching the tags to put the requests in a column.
Can people making a #Desc4Me or #Alt4Me request please tag in @imagecaptionspls in the same post as well? That helps make sure that interested helpers and their instances will always see the hashtagged message! People wanting to write 4Yous should set up something to monitor the 4Me tags, and *also* follow @imagecaptionspls
I would just like to publicise the #alt4me, #alt4you, #desc4me and #desc4you hashtags.
These tags are four descriptions for images and videos.
#alt4me is used when someone in need of alt text on an image finds a toot with an image attached and would like someone to respond with a description.
#desc4me is the same but for videos.
#alt4you is also for images but if you find an image which you describe, tag it with this.
#desc4you is similar to alt4you but for videos as well.
If you have the time, please do use these!
#ALT4me #ALT4you #desc4me #desc4you
@s0mmer As a blind iPhone user, who uses both VoiceControl & VoiceOver, I am unable to reboost this post, as there was not even an attempt to provide audio description for it. Apple could've easily addressed this in the description or in the comments, the latter before disabling them.
After listening to this video I am particularly interested in what appears to be a scene of a blind person using their iPhone as a wayfinding device. This is extremely irresponsible. Apple image recognition, as impressive as it is, is no substitute for sight, and it's definitely not suitable as a wayfaring device. I certainly would never put my life in my iPhone hands, when it can't transcribe simple words I have already added to its definition list. I have been saying "inaccessibility" to my iPhone ever since I got it in March, and it never fails to transcribe that word as "INXS ability".
Nor does the fact that every time someone issued a command in the video, my iPhone responded by executing that command instill confidence in me that an iPhone can successfully be used as a wayfinding device by the average blind individual.
Apple needs to address the inaccessibility of the video to its blind & visually impaired customers, & please explain to us, the blind, why are they included footage of an iPhone being used as a wayfinding device.
#alt4me #desc4me - this video has been tagged so that a group of volunteers can provide audio description. Please feel free to add your own audio description to this thread. Thank you.
@blind_lightning Yes, that is an excellent idea.
It would not only be of invaluable assistance to the deaf & hard-of-hearing, but to those who are blind/VI and/or have certain cognitive processing issues, as well.
In the case of captioning that's in a different natural language than the spoken natural language, a transcript of the entire caption track will be essential for many to review the contents in isolation, without audio interference.
The only issue I believe we need to discuss before merging the 2 efforts is whether we want to keep one tag dedicated to static images, & another tag dedicated to animated images and videos. The tags i've proposed for video & animated images are: #desc4me (request) and #desc4you (unsolicited)
Thank you again for bringing this issue to the forefront. I eagerly anticipate your feedback.
