Very few native speakers of any language know what all the rules are. That’s a really cool thing about how it all works. Academic linguists get off on arguing about what the rules are and why. The big dichotomy is between the #descriptivists and the #prescriptivists. The former say this is how it is and the latter say this is how it should be. #fisticuffs ensue.
