One focus of my dissertation was the spread of #aquatic #invasive #plants. Although they live in the water, macrophytes often spread over land attached to boats, trailers, and other equipment. Intuitively, this seems like a very hostile pathway, but the data demonstrating that remain limited. Coauthors and I spent a lot of time watching plants dry to provide those data. #desiccation

The African continent is experiencing disastrous problems due to the #climatecrisis even though it has contributed only minimally to the greenhouse gas emissions that have caused it.
In the #Sahel region in particular, erratic rainfall and increased #evaporation have led to #desiccation, which causes repeated #harvest failures and the disappearance of vegetation for grazing livestock.
