I’ve seen this mentality inside companies too - where a business unit will be dead set on launching a new app even though the company has an established app installed on hundreds of thousands or millions of devices.

“Why not just integrate with the company app?”

“Oh, we want to launch a brand.”

The customer is NOWHERE in that scenario.

If you look at the photo in the original article, the people’s heads are positively wrapped in straps. NSFW jokes aside, between the weight of a headset and the tension of the straps to prevent slippage, the cumulative effect is to shorten the viable #VR session length for many people. I know with my migraines that’s just too much going on. This is why understanding context of use matters - how many encumbrances are your customers dealing with? #InclusiveDesign #DesignBeyondDevices #UXDesign

In all seriousness, this “#VR microphone” is a signal that helps us explore why VR and in some cases desktop assistants still struggle to go mainstream. It’s not actually terribly common in this crowded world for folks to be alone with their technology between the office and home. Our relationship with technology is often passively performative. This leads to the need for privacy to feel comfortable fully utilizing certain modalities like voice. #DesignBeyondDevices #UXDesign
