If someone advocates for high prices on products that do social and/or environmental harm¹ as a means for harm reduction, are they “classist”?

① e.g.:

* cars (registration, parking, procurement, etc)
* fuel for cars
* air travel
* animal products
* vented tumble dryers
* hardware w/

“qyes” → qualified yes

@davidnjoku I must say the results are disturbing. The hardware lasts 10+ yrs (which i know b/c my Android 2.3 device still works).

The poll shows how many people are suckered by & support the corporate greed that drives it. I refuse to upgrade. Software makers pushing ppl into chronic upgrades & landfills full of phones can f-off.

My bank has to pay a staff member to do transactions for me b/c their app demands a new phone. So there’s some .

@potungthul Yeah, for sure there should be a special place in hell for the self-destructing apps that maximize the harms of . Unmandated SDK bumps are still harmful b/c users are still enticed to replace perfectly good hardware, but to a lesser extent. In picking battles, & are relatively evil this regard. Both those apps suffer from dev incompetence as well

The fewer apps you install on your , the less chance there is that you’ll be forced to buy new hardware simply to keep an app running. , , , & even the app itself have all pushed these silent ultamatims to users to force them back into the marketplace.

@rathantara @rugk I don’t see the point with fingerpointing between mfrs and Google. When all manufacturers & phone carriers bundle in proprietary blobs, then neglect updates in a move, that shits on the whole Android ecosystem. You can blame Google for using a license that gives manufacturers the option to do what corporations do. The users got fucked on that deal regardless.

The only way this makes sense is maybe the manufacturers deliberately want colors to slightly change so that when you break a tile 5 yrs later or do a partial demolition, you can’t get a match and so you have to retile the whole room. That’s the only reason I can think of.
