How Spotify’s Design System Goes Beyond Platforms (11min) https://www.figma.com/blog/creating-coherence-how-spotifys-design-system-goes-beyond-platforms/
Interesting cross-platform approach: they first design the component for all platforms at the same time, rather than designing for each platform individually. Also, design tokens, of course!

Thinking a lot about how design systems—and the teams that create and maintain them—intersect with BASF taglines and Sol Lewitt wall drawing instructions. Direction and ambiguity, constructors and constraints—all in service to making what you make, better #designsystems #RandomThoughtsOnDesign

The design project I’m most proud of was a back-office intake form. It was built with off the shelf CRM components.
I talked with people impacted by the form and found opportunities to improve it. It helped the VA triage at-risk veterans. It literally saved lives.
It didn’t matter what design system or UI library was used. What mattered was identifying the human needs of the system and helping patient advocates address the problems veterans had in the moment. #design #DesignSystems
It's time for the CTA!
- Write a design system
- Start with a style guide if a whole design system is too much
- Learn about the design tokens already present in your system
- Look at the consistency of your design system
Design Token naming is so much harder than I expect. AWS Amplify publishes their recommendations here: https://ui.docs.amplify.aws/react-native/theming#design-tokens
There are two major schools of design system tooling: blueprint or skeleton component libraries, and branded component libraries. I'm wondering a bit about how how headless component libraries and design systems dovetail -- if you have a headless component library, you don't really have a design system, imo.
Design tokens include spacing, color, typography, animation -- anything that can be represented as data.
I have finally finished my pet project!
If you work in #design or #designsystems and have ever added additional themes to your project, you probably know how difficult it is to match the contrasts of your original theme.
Well, look no more! I have built a tool that helps you do just that!
Plug in a color from your primary theme, the background color to compare against, and the hue value of your new theme - and viola! A new color that matches will magically appear!
The beginning of my year was characterized by changes and a lot of ups and down. Thankfully I found a new position already in April. Now I'm super happy and thankful I got this position as Creative Developer at https://www.field.io within this group of so many kind, professional and creative people 🎉 😍
thanks for having me!

Token names are how design tokens are referenced and identified by consumers. But at the core, a “name” is more of an ordered representation of a catalog system and API. This catalog system and API is also known as a token taxonomy. Building a clear taxonomy assisted us in appropriately and consistently classifying tokens, as well as providing a scalable and predictable naming convention for consumers.

Hi fediverse! New private instance calls for a new #introduction. I'm Brandon, a technical product designer. I love the intersection of #design and #code, and am particularly interested in #designsystems. I live just outside Washington, D.C. with my husband and 2 cats. I tweet about happenings in my personal life, #tech, #design, #art, #photography, #uxresearch, #frontend, #lgbt, #designsystems, and #videogames.

I like #WordPress, its block editor seems super powerful, but I wish it were easier to bring in external libraries of portable HTML, CSS and JavaScript patterns… 🤔️ https://cloudfour.com/thinks/wordpress-blocks-portable-patterns-and-pain-points/

Component nomenclatures are a topic that is often left to the last and makes it very difficult to implement, build and maintain component libraries.

Starting a project tomorrow for a lovely new client. It’ll be short and sweet but I’m excited to be working with them and partnering up with @heydon again.
I still have some availability this month so let me know if you need any:
- content design
- design systems support
By doing a design audit, you can uncover inconsistencies, redundancies, and gaps within your design system. This knowledge allows you to make targeted improvements and enhancements.

Deep into css custom properties. Full convert from preprocessor sass variables. Liking it.
