As a UX person, this has been painfully obvious (and I've been yelling about it for years) iOS and Android have been designed to be a consumption focused, and productivity actions have been tacked on, rather poorly.

BTW, I'm NOT anti-mobile, my point is that mobile hasn't grown ENOUGH over the last few years. There are opportunities yet for both desktop and mobile to grow, but they are so entrenched, it's hard to change.

@thindil BTW, that all said, I *do* agree that it's questionable whether GPU drivers that will only be needed for Desktop/GUI usage *should* be in base at all! After all, although #FreeBSD explicitly supports #Desktop usage, nothing else necessary for it is part of base.

But then, that's a different discussion. If it would be easier to maintain drm-kmod as a part of base, this will probably happen eventually...

🐧️ As I was checking https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases to see if there was already a date set for #Ubuntu 24.04 (there is not), I could remember that the first version of this distribution I ever used was 5.10, the "Breezy Badger", released almost 18 years ago. I try some alternatives now and then, but this has been my main #desktop operating system ever since, be it at school, work or home. I was already a user of its predecessors, but Ubuntu allowed me to migrate to #Linux for good.

So I've been testing different #linux #Desktop environments... I think I'm a #gnome guy. I also like #cinnamon a lot.

I don't like #KDE, sorry T_T. Although I'm totally sure I would be a very big fanboy of it if I was younger.

Gnome is weird, very weird... but once it clicks with you its hard to change to another thing.

Cinnamon its just a simpler life, "sensible defaults" as the cool kids like to say these days. Not too much hassle and keep on keeping on.

Using python for the GUI itself is sometimes problematic (slow) but tapping into the growing library ecosystem to enable more sophisticated management of user data as background tasks seems like a desirable direction.

Individual apps can do their own thing ofcourse, but the question is whether there can be a common API.
