It’s making handling debugging and community support way more complicated than it needs to be :)

The Steam Deck is #NextGen and it's gonna continue to be Next Gen, not because of its hardware but because of its #idea!
The idea that #Linux is mature and can be expressed in many new interfaces that doesn't have to be #DesktopLinux.

I’ve had some issues with my very old and underpowered #NAS, basically it’s fine as an archive but trying to find files I can purge as the disk fills up was near impossible. It also was getting frustrating as an iTunes library server.
I finally got myself a powerful #NUC to host the external #backup drive as a primary with the intent to sync back to “cold” storage.
Booted it up from a USB stick and wow… #desktopLinux has come a long way since I last used it. Everything worked immediately

It has been a long time since I have run into any problems—which is kind of strange, since desktop Linux is such a small % of the user base and afaik hasn't moved up (?)
Maybe it's that video conferencing services are sold to organizations, and the chance of a sales rep having a problem meeting with a customer on desktop Linux is high enough to make it worth doing?

At the same time, I can see that Apple laptops are headed towards a platform that I eventually won’t want to be on (closed/walled garden in the name of security, shorter hardware support cycle). Some folks (@pluralistic et al) have pointed me to @frameworkcomputer—seems great. Q: I don’t like Windows, but I live in an O365 world. Any tips for exploring #desktopLinux in that context? Thanks!
