On the other side of the spectrum, the three titles I can honestly say I spent the bulk of my time in - in recent years - have been , & . Yet with each their sequels, my interest waned.

While life (and time) are considerably different than when those three titles launched, I think the key shift for me is the social aspect - as friends I'd frag with went their separate ways, I found myself left behind.

Something that doesn't happen in single-player titles.

I've played Destiny for a long time, but for some reason have never felt all that fannish about them. It always delights me to see people who do feel that way, though, especially when they have so much skill.
