Living in California makes some of the right-wing’s authoritarian bigotry-fueled insanity a little abstract. But it’s important to remember that it’s not abstract. It’s not distant. Literally every single vote for any GOP-affiliated anything at any level contributes to it. You *cannot* be a Republican and have any distance from what your party is doing to people, or the institutions of America.
