Chipping away the last remnants of the teak deck.
Top tip to boat buyers: Never get a teak deck. New, old, good condition, a few years left or already rotting off - doesn't matter, just stay away from this epic nonsense.

@Cresh I am removing ours, these are the last parts on the aft deck I'm doing now. See #deteakification
Not fun is correct! 😓
About 20 months ago, I removed the old, failing teak deck from our boat and freed the non-skid gelcoat it was glued onto. This left a bunch of black PU adhesive in between the nonskid pattern. It's nearly impossible to remove as PU has good chemical resistance, but luckily is vulnerable to UV light, so simply ignoring it is doing a great job so far!
I'm guessing in another two years or so, the rest is gone. Maybe a bit longer in shadier spots.

@sullybiker No, our teak deck was just glued on top of a gelcoat deck. And we removed most of it in the great #deTeakification
The deck/hull joint used to leak a little though. But not since I resealed it on both sides 😃
13 months later...
Lots of weathering, a few pressure washes and deck scrubs and I'd say about half the old glue is gone. All the center dimples have gone away and the grooves are filled about half way instead of all the way to the top now.
So this indeed seems to be working, albeit a bit slower than expected.

Tool tip: Lidl's oscillating multitool (Parkside PMFW 310 D2). The price is unbeatable. I removed most of our teak deck with one of these in last winter's #deteakification project. My lower back was toast, but the tool was still going strong after all that abuse in a salty environment.
Only minor issue was sometimes wood splinters getting into the shaft and needed prying out. Also it's loud!

Two macro shots from the deck. One from the coachroof area which never had any teak, so the gelcoat has been exposed to the elements for 20 years.
The other from underneath the recently removed teak deck, with residual black glue and a white patch nearby.

Done removing the old teak deck from the starboard side, which means I'm about half done.
Unfortunately the work has come to a halt, as the marina has chosen to randomly enforce some silly rules about doing work on boats. Two weeks into the job.
Will have to think of something if they don't realize how much they're alienating customers with this nonsense.
After a day off for rain and recuperation (my foot was hurting, of all the things), it's back to chipping away at the deck today.
Already got a bucket and a half. Found my rhythm now and working my way along the starboard side.
Have also cleaned up the old glue on the foredeck with an angle-grinder and a fine scotch-brite pad.
