Book review: RSS: The Long and Short of It

The acuity in Devanura Mahadeva’s writing has defeated RSS, and its nefarious agenda on its turf, which is religious philosophy often mended according to the whims of right-wing propaganda. His intervention becomes crucial because he was an insider who once carried the RSS’s parasol.

Exploring the Sangh

Aakar Patel reviews Devanura Mahadeva's book 'RSS: The Long and Short of It' translated from Kannada by S.R. Ramakrishna.

The stress on homogeneity over diversity shows, the author writes, in such things as nomenclature. The RSS and the BJP refer to Adivasis as vanvasis (forest dwellers), thus eroding their indigenous identity. Mahadeva calls Hindutva a “cow-faced tiger”, an entity that is eating at Indian society from within.
