Okay, #DevilsAdvocate, the company charges money to other companies to serve ads to customers, so if they fail to do that, they are breaching the contract between Meta and, let's say, McDonald's.

Of course, wouldn't the way to avoid that issue be to provide only "dumb ads", just randomly showing McDonald's ads, even if the person is posting about how great it is to be vegan?

No information collection, no laws broken, right?

Why not arm every school child? Issue every 2nd Grader a gun with their #2 pencil. No safety/proficiency training required.

I mean, if "more guns make us safer" and "you don't need training to get a gun", then why limit guns in school to just Teachers or armed guards?

It's like Republicans are admitting there are people too irresponsible/immature to own a gun, and that arming EVERYONE isn't necessarily a good idea. 🤔

@joshua @shadowfacts The flip-side may be that they have been burnt before by someone joining and announcing that the old codebase needed to be re-written from scratch and that turned into a farce. It might just have been a poorly worded thing based on a working codebase that they just need help to maintain and evolve. #DevilsAdvocate

Is it just me or is an IoT Hearing Aid a recipe for making someone go crazy? Imagine if someone was to use the hearing aids to collect real voice samples. Then eventually use AI and a feedback loop to make someone hear voices in their ears.

I don't know why I think these things.

We all are so stupid sometimes that we can not see significant faults in our approach and blame the system.

I have been there countless times when I blamed the architecture design, software, network and whatnot for the things not working due to my wrongdoings, some silly, stupid mistakes which killed my days.

And then, most of the time, someone came playing the role of devil's advocate, as I felt at first. Felt like my intellect was being questioned, but then I found my silly mistake. I called myself stupid, but I learnt after a few incidents that we all need someone like this around sometimes -- asking us to check if everything is correct at our end, ask us to re-verify, try to get on the call to provide a different set of an eye or work together doing peer-programming -- even though making us feel bad this whole thing for the time being.

Many times they don't get any praise. But once we cross that blocker and retrospect, we can quickly identify their help and support on a personnel level. And when you do, keep them close -- they are not enemies. Even if they can't help you several times, it saves lots of time and energy when they hit the bull eye.

So when something like this happened recently, I remembered all those heroes without the cape, who didn't mind my occasional arrogancy and helped me save lots of time and energy, and gave me this thought to write down in dairy.

#Mastodon could be considered a #PublicSpace and, at least in the #USA (I'm not a #lawyer) such spaces don't afford the same rights as private spaces, e.g. one can be photographed/videoed in a public space without consent.
