What a boat trip yesterday from #Brixham, #Devon. Skipper Dave on 'Kelly's Hero' did us proud; the wildlife was phenomenal - Great, Manx, Sooty and Balearic #Shearwater; Great, Arctic and Pomarine #Skua; Storm Petrel; Short-beaked Common #Dolphin; Harbour Porpoise; Grey Seal amongst all the 'usual' Gull species.

Exciting day bird-wise. An Ortolan Bunting was reported at East Devon Golf Club so three of us headed there. After 90 minutes of studying a hedge, it was spotted! Brief but good views. A new species for me so happy times! Thanks to Mark who spotted it and let us view through his ‘scope (pretty difficult to describe location (“It’s in the hedge!!!!”)).

I had some chores to do today but as I was passing Aylesbeare Common I thought I'd have a quick walk.
As I was snapping a Grayling butterfly I saw a movement behind it - a Common Lizard! Plenty of #Grayling about as well as Gatekeeper.

Its been a little rainy here today and I thought that I would grab a little time on a local Common thinking that the birds might be more active when it stopped. I was right! Not only did I come across a Spotted #Flycatcher (which would have made it a special visit) but a #Grasshopper Warbler too. Which made it very special!!

Three hours spent in Riverside Valley Park, #Exeter, #Devon in the hope of seeing a visiting Night Heron - which I didn't; and other water birds - which I did. Particularly pleased to watch a male Kingfisher fishing and a Little Grebe appearing out of the vegetation. Three hours well spent, I think!

Another visit to Bowling Green Marsh, #Exeter, #Devon over high tide and the mud was full of #Redshank, #Dunlin, #Godwit (mostly Black-tailed but a couple of Bar-tailed for good measure), #Curlew, #Whimbrel #Ruff, #Knot and three Kingfisher. The evening sun made for good light along with a pleasant group of people in the hide.
