Eye Contact
Hasta la próxima, #DevRelCon! I’m elated and lucky to have spent time catching up with and getting to know so many of you 💜
Definitely feeling them post conf blues, can’t wait until the next time we meet 🥰 thank you everyone
“[singular] DevRel is not a noun. I am not a DevRel. I am a Developer Advocate.” PJ Hagerty #DevRelCon 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
“The average lifespan of someone in #DevRel is 2-2.5 years…” says PJ Hagerty 😬 #DevRelCon

Really interesting talk from Nadia Jiang #DevRelCon about developer communities in China - emphasising the relative youth of developers in China (63% below 30) and providing solid data around preferences and ways to engage.
I like Alfredo’s angle on the automation discussion from yesterday at #DevRelCon… “ruthless automation” -> “*thoughtful* automation” 👏🏻 measure and be aware of what you’re doing. Human interactions manage the “important nuance”
Anyone using LEGO in their presentations wins my attention - Alfredo Morressi talking about arranging data via a LEGO building analogy #DevRelCon
I’ll be leading a #Fediverse 101 session about Mastodon and more at the #DevRelCon unconference this morning.
Next up is Moti Granosky talking about “When DevRel becomes Company Strategy” - leaning in to the London branding for #DevRelCon 🚇
Rich Millington pointing out the proliferation of online spaces for conversations, private and public, many of which we don’t control “we can fight against that if we want, or we can encourage and accept it” #DevRelCon - my take - the role of #DevRel is to go to where the communities are and the conversations happen; and then listen, engage, empathise, support and learn.
One of my personal most-anticipated speakers is kicking off day 2 at #DevRelCon - Rich Millington on using data to understand community engagement. I’ve been a fan since his book “Buzzing Communities”, and I continue to draw inspiration from his content.
From #DevRelCon into a meetup-inside-a-conference - DevRellers meetup London hosted by @Wendyd and featuring Emily Omier talking about community - building a team of supporters for your product, learning from the community to improve the product.
… a good audience question: “you spoke about automation, but what have you done to support the resilience of the people?” #DevRelCon
Nailed it: you need to find the right communities to share your content, e.g. Python community on LinkedIn vs via a brand account on Twitter/X #DevRelCon
Great question to Common Room on the stage: how long will you continue to support Twitter stats via their very expensive API? And call it Twitter? A: until content is no longer there (and we will probably always call it Twitter) #DevRelCon 😬
Come to the unconference tomorrow to talk about how to get content away from that platform!
My slides from #DevRelCon today in which it's clear I have a fondness for health and safety signage 🤣 https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1A-5x4OjmxuKahJfg3iBSIVEYjyZei_doZ_btGYQVptg/
Just spent some time in an unconference session about social media post-X etc #DevRelCon - tomorrow I’ll be happy to lead a follow-up discussion but I had to jump to another engagement.
Another great speaker I’m here for #DevRelCon is Adam DuVander. Nicely performed set of lessons learned / to learn about writing better content and reaching more developers 😊
Fabulous question asked “what is your why on developer education - why spend so much time on it” @sue responding that more equal access to education and knowledge is a key motivator 👏🏻#DevRelCon
I’m a huge fan of @glitchdotcom - I wonder how many other folk at #DevRelCon are using it?
@sue referring back to @joenash expression “I made a computer do a thing” as a capsule for the learning experience: that process is super quick to demonstrate in Glitch.
