En Espagne, les lévriers comme le Galgo Español sont utilisés pour chasser le lièvre. Outre le succès de la chasse, c'est surtout l'honneur des chasseurs qui est mis en avant. Si un chien n'est plus adapté à la chasse ou s'il fait honte à son maître, il est maltraité et tué de la manière la plus cruelle qui soit.
