Kathleen's direct and courageous opening was very inspiring to me personally: saying all the things publicly that I think about often but sometimes feel too intimidated to say out loud. The OpenJournals platform was launched with 6 journals. In less than 3 years it has grown to 30! 🙏🏽

I think this really shows the desire of many journal editors and boards to publish #openaccess and do it in such a way that is as inclusive as possible. #diamondOA

Looking at journals published by Swiss scholarly societies, I am pleasantly surprised by the number that are #DiamondOA journals. I thought more of them would use the journals as funding opportunities. Perhaps it is more the case with international societies?

@gap They are by far usually what you've described. There are some exceptions, the worst of which you have described.. unfortunately in this case the comm. publishers will often claim the #diamondOA journal as their own. When in fact they are just being to do the publishing. Would also be very interested in knowing the price such societies are paying to these publishers!

Just attended a webinar hosted by ACS Publications (of all organizations!): Global Perspectives on Open Access. Terrible vibes and avoidance of the issues and questions. Sweden bragging about being top in transformative agreements (see slide). #diamondOA as an afterthought as usual. The worst, in my opinion, is India's "One Nation One Subscription" and willingness to pay for APCs on a country-level (but without a plan and budget to do so). Yuck. Nearly let it ruin my birthday and Pi day :D

Still have a lot to learn about Diamond OA journals. I thought they were usually self-published ot hosted by research institutions, but it turns out some are hosted by commercial publishers, such as Springer for SJES.
