The Buddhist Diamond Sutra is the world’s oldest surviving complete printed book, dating back to 868 AD. The book is a sacred text of Mahayana Buddhism, which teaches the wisdom of emptiness and compassion. The book was discovered in a hidden cave in Dunhuang, China, in 1900, along with thousands of other manuscripts and artworks. The book is now preserved in the British Library and is available online for anyone to read.

The second quote from Huineng, also found in his commentary on the #DiamondSutra, section 21:

"Talking about emptiness all day does not say a single word."

This one was so funny, almost ironic considering it is found in a commentary. But there is a corollary in the next sentence:

"If you say he has a doctrine, you are slandering the Realized One."

I want to share 2 #zenquotes from the 6th Patriarch Huineng. They can be found in his commentary on the #DiamondSutra.

First. In the preface.

"This one scroll sutra originally exists in the essential nature of all beings. People who do not see it themselves just read and recite written letters. If you realize your original mind, you will realize for the first time that this sutra is not in written letters."

This idea felt so beautiful, poetic, but also very true.
