Next level of #ctscanning: #diceCT! "Diffusible Iodine-based Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography" allows me to analyze not only the #bones, but the muscular soft tissue of the Java finch #bird #skull. This is possible thanks to a prior staining of the #muscles with iodine solution. This website provides fascinating information about the technique, in case you're interested: https://dicect.com/

In this #OpenAccess pub, Kaylea describes a significant anastomotic network in the anterior spinal artery territory of the medulla –– we didn't know they were there, but Kaylea *found them* in super high-res #MicroCT scans of #DiceCT brains, and started wondering if maybe all that collateral (back-up) oxygen supply could explain why strokes of this artery are *super rare*
Huge, huge congratulations to OSU-CHS OMS-IV Kaylea Feldman for discovering some previously unknown human #Neuroanatomy (with clinical implications)

In The Anatomical Record's December cover article, @SavannahSciArt@twitter.com describes a novel atympanic middle ear system in chameleons.
Some chameleons hear using their pterygoid bone instead of an eardrum. This has evolved at least 4 times!
