Vanaf 1969 is de band #TheAllmanBrothers een feit, en vanaf als Duann eind 1971 overlijdt wordt #DickeyBetts de solo gitarist en neemt de rol van frontman en singer-songwriter op zich.
Hij schrijft oa Jessica en Ramblin' man.
In 1974 brengt hij zijn eerste soloalbum uit #HiggwayCall.
In 1976 gaan The Allman Brothers uit elkaar om van 1979 tot 1982 met 2 andere leden verder te gaan.
In 1982 richt hij de band #BettsHallLeavellAndTrucks op samen met #JimmyHall, maar stoppen al in 1984.

Betts groeit op in een muzikale familie waar bluegrass, country en western swing de plak zwaait.
Op zijn vijfde speelt hij mandoline en naarmate hij groeit, groeien de instrumenten mee tot hij eindigt met electrische gitaar. Vanaf zijn 15de speelt hij in verschillende bandjes, waarvan in 1967 #TheJokers met bassist #BerryOakley.
In 1969 ontmoet hij zo #DuanAllman die furore maakt als sessiemuzikant maar een eigen band wil oprichten.
