Just released DICOM-rs v0.6.1. 🚀 This is a patch release, so be sure to update once possible.
Today we are proud to announce that Digital Public Goods Alliance has recognized Orthanc as a digital public good!
This underscores our commitment to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 9 (health, innovation, infrastructure). This also affirms our mission to freely share the technical knowledge about medical imaging at large. #DICOM #SDG #UCLouvain

#OTD Exactly eleven years ago, after six months of research in the Department of medical physics at
the University Hospital of Liège, I publicly released the first version of Orthanc (that was known as Palantir at that time). #FreeSoftware #DICOM
Version 2.0 of the whole-slide imaging plugin for Orthanc is available! Besides many minor improvements, this release brings support for International Image Interoperability Framework. This new feature creates a bridge between the #IIIF and #DICOM worlds, with applications to telepathology and teleradiology.

The call for contributions to the Orthanc Conference 2023 is now open! Topics of interest include:
Orthanc-specific contributions:
- Real-world deployments of Orthanc (clinical departments, hospitals, regional/country-wide implementations,...).
- Scientific projects that leverage Orthanc.
- Industrial applications built using Orthanc.
- Extensions to Orthanc (scripts, plugins,...).
Contributions beyond Orthanc:
- Free, libre and open-source software (FLOSS), as well as open hardware projects, for medical imaging and digital pathology.
- FLOSS for the automated analysis of medical images (computer vision, deep learning, and machine learning).
- Healthcare interoperability through FLOSS and open standards (#DICOM, #BIDS, #NIfTI, #IIIF, #FHIR,...).
Deadline: Early September.

It's been quite a run. Building 20 pull requests for DICOM-rs during the past two weeks is not something I'd often pull off. We're getting very close to a new milestone.

Ever wanted to have a fast and effortless access to the OHIF viewers right from Orthanc? This is now possible thanks to the new #OHIF plugin for #Orthanc! #DICOM

📢 Just released a new version of the Unity Volume Rendering plugin: https://github.com/mlavik1/UnityVolumeRendering/releases/tag/release-4
Features:
- Asynchronous dataset import, with progress reporting
- Save datasets as Assets
- Sphere cutout too
- Fixed orientation and scale of DICOM and NRRD datasets
- Direct volume rendering optimisation
And much more!

I've just updated the documentation for the Unity Volume Rendering plugin: https://github.com/mlavik1/UnityVolumeRendering/blob/master/Documentation/Documentation.md
#unity #VolumeRendering #dicom
Working on a change that will allow you to save imported datasets as assets, that can be dragged&dropped into the scene or loaded quickly at runtime.

Will start preparing a new release soon.
This will include:
- Asynchronous import and updating of textures (this is a must for VR/XR)
- Fixed coordinate space of DICOM datasets (they were mirrored!)
- Several rendering optimisations (should be able to enable lighting on AR devices with acceptable performance)
- Sphere cutout tool
And much more!
I've been developing a Unity plugin that can render 3D medical datasets for quite some time..
Just now I found out that nearly all datasets were inverted, so the heart would show up slightly to the right and the liver on the left side 😅
Everyone using the plugin have probably either not noticed, or silently fixed the issue on their side by mirroring the object 😁
Orthanc 1.12.0 has just been released! This new major release notably introduces supports for labels, which can be used to efficiently index #DICOM resources according to user-defined criteria.

Just merged two PRs for adding asynchronous dataset import to the Unity Volume Rendering plugin!
Dataset import now happens in the background, and in the editor (Unity 2020+) you will see a nice little progress bar.
Thanks to SitronX for the pull request! 👏
