More lost future: in 1926 the British War Office produced this "Map Showing Areas in which Main Imperial Airship Routes Will Probably Develop".
The cities shown are there for obvious reasons, with only Bedford in England being mysterious. The Royal Airship Works was there and its airship sheds still stand.
Events leading to the end of this future were already underway: the R101 was being worked on and after it crashed in 1930 airships were suddenly The Past.

On continue dans la série « #artbook pour #inspiration #dieselpunk » avec celui du film de Mamoru Oshii, #TheSkyCrawlers. Film un peu lent et contemplatif mais que j’avais bien aimé. Dans tous les cas, l’artbook est formidable et permet d’admirer le mecha-design sous toutes les coutures.
Je me demande s’il existe aussi un artbook pour l’excellent jeu vidéo sorti sur Wii…

I found this two-page spread in an 1941 issue of Popular Mechanics and have wanted since to write an RPG book where you roam around the countryside solvin' 1930s crimes. Half Elliot Ness and half Scooby-Doo.
The second picture shows that the darned thing actually got built, but less ambitiously than in the diagram.
