Having to navigate physical therapy and researching stuff online for exercise while also previously having disordered eating, is a nightmare. Now I'm just getting so many recommended videos for diets and fat burning exercises, EVEN THOUGH I googled shit in private mode to prevent this happening.
No, I'm not interested in diet, exercise for a hot bod, exercise to lose weight, or any diet culture related shit. I just need to do my physical therapy for my fucked neck in peace please.
Saw an ad for a 'wall #pilates' programme and it's actually full of #dietCulture bullshit like "no chocolates or soda!", "no burger and chips!"
Fuck off telling people that losing weight is the most important thing. This BS puts so many of us off exercise.
It should not be a punishment
Being thin shouldn't be presented as a reward
Strength over weight
It's so absolutely toxic and ubiquitous
Dal momento che c'è tantissima disinformazione e preconcetti (per non dire ignoranza) sull'argomento dell'obesità e dei DCA, ogni tanto ci riporto qui panel di medicə che seguo altrove.
Questo è di Edoardo Mocini.

If you’re not eating the partially digested plant matter in animal bellies, are you even paleo, bro?

@vivsmythe #DietCulture is absolutely rife with #Conspirituality (“where quack pseudoscience meets quasi-religious beliefs about how our bodies work"): clean eating, cleansing, sinful foods, being “good/bad” in keeping to a diet, willpower, fat=gluttonous/thinness=virtuous, fasting as spiritual, etc.
Diets are framed (in explicit and implicit was) as the means to get into Heaven.
Just in case you ever wonder why I believe that diet culture is bullshit ... This is the strongest piece I've read about it on the internet:
Is it possible to talk about #dietculture fads in a way that is still permissive of the sheer genetic variability that necessarily dictates that some dietary choices are suitable for some but not for others? Every time I hear that #keto is a dangerous fad, I have to grit my teeth, because it’s been the only successful intervention (medical or otherwise) for my chronic #migraines, and I’d be disabled 3 or 4 days a week if I didn’t keep myself in ketosis (in my case, <18 net grams of carbs p/day).
Another shout-out to #AnjaliPrasertong (the #AntiRacistDietician) - she makes me think with every article she writes, whether on #FoodEquity, #DietCulture, #FoodCulture, #Racism in #FoodPolicy, #FoodHistory, #CulinaryAppropriation, and more, and the intersection of #nutrition with all of it.
Some are serious, some are lighthearted (such as her #FridayJoy series), some just ask thought-provoking questions.
But I'm so glad I discovered her & want to get her name out. 📣

"Shame is never motivating and what we eat is not a cipher for morality"
Brilliant article by Rebecca Seal about eating, fear of fatness, inequality, and the toxic culture of moralising people's food, health, and bodies. Spot on analysis 🎯

I practically could have written this piece about the book Fat Talk by Virginia Sole-Smith, whose writing I follow, admire, and learn from. If you've ever made or heard or agreed with a comment about someone's body size, you need to read this https://wapo.st/3mBNjjt, get the book, and consider following and subscribing to Virginia's writing at https://virginiasolesmith.substack.com/. #FatTalk #HAAS #HealthAtAnySize #health #DietCulture #bodies #fat #weight

A https://jjfit.pro update: I wrote about learning more affirming alternatives to dieting and #dietculture: https://jjfit.pro/dietculture/
Content warnings are great! So are content warnings for #food. But as someone actively trying to disengage with #DietCulture (not helped by #GenerationalTrauma associated with it), something that is really really really not helpful is when the #ContentWarning places a value on the food, ie “healthy food” or “unhealthy food”.
I am someone working very hard (with professionals!) to not place a judgement on the food that I eat, and seeing food pre-judged for me doesn’t help that. I want to see the food! But I want to see it *as* food, not as food that has already been deemed as good or bad for me.

Our fixation on size and weight stigma is already hurting young kids' self image, educators and parents can see.
The new childhood obesity guidelines that include weight loss meds & surgery recommendations has some worried it could just get worse

Okay, now that I’ve actually finished The Fuck-It Diet, I can give a mostly-whole-hearted recommendation.
Keeping in mind that not all advice is applicable to everyone, and there’s probably stuff you’ll read and actively disagree with, it really does have a lot of valuable insight - both for us fat folk, but even those who aren’t.

As someone who is actively ditching #DietCulture and have understood how being #NeuroDifferent plays into it, I have started to notice somewhat problematic intense needs to fit in within neurokin that often border on pretty deep ableism.
A part of me feels like the entire biomedical model just reinforces various kinds of mandatory performance/anxiety to fit in that is at its core harmful to us.
