Initiated by the Digging Into Early Colonial Mexico (AHRC) research project Unlocking the Colonial Archive (AHRC/NEH) has now moved into the ingest and annotation of Mexica (Aztec) painting/maps. We are currently automating the visual entity extraction and contextualizing them within a Mesoamerican Cosmovision Ontology.
This is an example from Relaciones Geografficas, a 16th century gazetteer mixing indigenous language &European mapping tradition.
