Wonder why #shazam takes ages to schedule a song for #distribution? It's last in the list to be ready by many days 🤷

Busker 0.7.0 (my #django tool for creating and redeeming digital download codes) is out. The only new 'feature' per se is prettier error pages, but more significantly I also finally got around to trying out coverage.py and got a bit obsessed with its super-helpful reporting. As of 0.7.0, unit test coverage is technically at 100% (Signals still need tests and there's room for improvement, but this is the most diligent I've ever been with testing and I'm pretty pleased.)

I've heard mixed things about DistroKid but seeing as this is more of a vanity project than a "I'm gonna be the hot new thing on Apple Music" endeavor, I'm going to give it a shot for a year... Especially since they gave me a 35% discount when I abandoned the signup process yesterday.
*immediate* stumbling block: They're very cagey about public domain music, which all of the songs on this project are, unambiguously (none more recent than 1886). They don't really have a solution, saying "call yourself the songwriter but use first name: Traditional and last name: Music" which is some dystopian bullshit, but at least they acknowledge it and provide a workaround.
In my 19th century niche I don't really anticipate any problems (other than, perhaps, their acoustic fingerprint matching algorithms flagging my stuff because it sounds exactly like somebody else's low-tuned solo fretless banjo recordings of the same tunes, which has happened to me on youtube at least once) #audio #music #recording #digitaldistribution #distrokid

when it comes to uploading music to digital stores (like Apple, Spotify, JunoDownload, Google Play, etc) i'm constantly torn between reason pro and contra:
- PRO the music is distributed. it's free anyway (CC), so why not put it out there wherever are people who can listen and love it
- it's bad because it then supports exploitation, low margins, unfair practices... the dark side of music industry.
anyone have similar thoughts?
