the j dilla documentary, created by his family and titled "the legacy of j dilla", debuted on hulu/fx this past weekend.

did anyone watch it? thoughts?

me thinks it's a solid primer, particularly for those new to him, but it's a bit lacking for the "heads". lots of stuff missing. barely even mentioned slum village. still worth a watch!

that said, i know questlove from the roots is working on a dilla documentary and my guts says it will be the real winner.

Listened to a lot of #JayDee over the past month and gotta say, nothing compares to this album for me. Dilla had complete control of the whole thing and it's one of the most diverse, tight and interesting albums ever imo. The sleeve notes are also amazing, explaining how each track was conceived/made...a favourite is Give It Up, where the beat is made up of some of the most used samples, yet it sounds so original. Also, Think Twice is an amazing cover of the Donald Byrd track...
