Not sure if it's a real answer or even a sizable part of one but I have found some koozies/cozys for canning jars, which if nothing else should help me hold them & lessen chances of breakage via my dropping them. #DisabilityAccessibility
@aral I just hate all of it, the entire radioactive manure pile that biometric identity forms are, as it's already been proven that none of them are even truly reliable & all forms hurt at least one subset of disabled people.
One of the absolutely wonderous things about computers & higher tech things overall is their capacity to make this world more accessible for disabled people & thusly to reduce that element of structural societal inequality, but biometric ID does the exact opposite, as it, especially with the mandates it often comes with, adds an accessibility barrier set.

@AutisticAdam And to be clear, I really don't want to have them banned either, as I know some people legitimately communicate best via speaking on the telephone, but as a customer or consumer of a business or product, I believe it wrong & against the ADA/disability accessibility rules, to mandate this is any of those scenarios & it's not a problem I've seen lessening but rather worsening through the years. Business email addresses aren't more expensive than phone lines either, so this can't just be passed off as a "modification that only rich/big businesses can afford". #DisabilityAccessibility

The internet needs to be an alternative to telephone communication to businesses, because #DisabilityAccessibility matters & this is among the ways it's too rarely provided.

@oblomov so much this & more people should likewise understand that beyond color blindness, that people with sensory overload problems will be harmed with the messes I often see attempted to "get more interest". I'm in that category & can thusly see so much of the details that looking at some of those color menageries as I read, will either make me dizzy, nauseous or give me a headache & a long pamphlet full will yield all 3! #DisabilityAccessibility
@yabellini Just start accepting hybrids of online & in person events as a normality, because for some of us virtual will never be #Accessible & for others in person will never be accessible. This isn't to say that both can't be modified to allow more but it's beyond tiresome to see this divide, as at best it just saves a little money in said mess, but mostly it divides worlds & gives an artificial separation between disabled people from each other. #DisabilityAccessibility

@blackenbylesbo indeed one of the biggest blockages/delays in getting my home repairs done has been that the costs of renting equipment, including pretty obvious aides to accessibility like ramps, have been so high that it's pretty obvious they intend on having small businesses as their lowest end user of said items. #DisabilityAccessibility #Tools

@aral @MattHodges It's another part/area where I feel like I'm having to push hard to outrun a set of messes. In part because it's not just a matter of changing defaults for privacy, but also a set of problems later with apps that will only work if you keep to the original default browser, or you're barred in effect from using those apps.
I already hate having to give up a sizable amount of my privacy to get at least some basic needs met, for my being disabled directly, but this mess set compounds those problems by giving me the "choice" of either loss of function of those money saving apps, far more time & energy needed to skip those apps with work arounds I've found or give up even more privacy to criminal virtual monopolies like Google, apple and amazon!
At the moment if it's a choice of a few more joint dislocations & subluxations or uptick in neuropathy for a few hours vs less privacy -- I'm generally continuing to "choose" the former, but I shouldn't be forced into making that "choice" at all!!!
After I learn more and get my tech setups improved, the additional struggles for this will lessen but again, neither me nor anyone else should be forced to learn all this, just for basics!

@darlingofishtar This is a rather huge issue for me & something I'll be working on as I repair my home, upgrade it & likewise work on joint brace redesigning because often these design elements are so minimalist - that they do diminish functionality.
Extending your raw iron railing as an example. I often use a in addition to joint braces to get around and the texture of raw iron is easier for me to grip than the smooth aluminum I often see - which also often is just a top- without any fill-in/fuller barrier below, adding even more safety & stability for people like me, with neuropathy, who never really use wheelchairs but do pretty continually use ramps.
Part of why I think so much of this is missed is that we (disabled people) are almost never asked about these things until after they're built...& then we're expected to clap gleefully no matter how awful it actually is in any & all respects.
@TechNews My biggest question on this, as with all such small & new computers is: How durable is the hardware?
If it can't handle a few hundred 2-6 ft falls to the ground - it's not something I'd consider "useful" as I'm guaranteed to break it in under 3 years, as my disabilities cause me to drop such things frequently. #DisabilityAccessibility
@krisnelson I see this as just another obscenity set overall and I'm among those who wants in person as an option conferences to restart, because in person is the most accessible for my needs.
(I can't handle the all on one screen thing that online conferences are & really need the travel time with it's task sets to mentally setup and later decompress from said events.)
I don't want those who can't for whatever reasons you have, to have your access needs denied for mine, rather for hybrids (of in person & virtual/remote attendance) to be the new standard.
I want to be able to then watch folks like you use text mostly in chats, with quick glances at my phone, as I mostly watch speakers in person in front of me as that'll help enhance my experience even more at said events.
@LunaDragofelis @darlingofishtar @Elizafox forgetting or not having the ability to do so at that time, I frequently can't do so immediately, over my arthritis & neuropathy, that often occumpany some brain fog,.. using the edit feature to add that at most 2 days later - when I can do so.
@aral This is why I keep looking into open source software & alternative methods of getting things done, as I find this is so true when it comes to #DisabilityAccessibility tools. One aspect- similar to the vision aide you've mentioned is my tracking of long-term contact lense availability and coverage of polycarbonate lenses in eyeglasses. About 20 years ago there was a huge variety of contact lenses available for vision correction, so that people could get what worked best & for me that was lenses lasting about 1-3 years before changing them, all options in durations were in cataloges & made by a few companies, now though the longer term are almost nonexistent, as the preference is locked in short term wearing & buying more. Polycarbonate lenses- which lasts longer & is lighter in weight (which I need to avoid injury from the heavier option) is now being removed from medical insurance coverages and thusly even as it's cheaper for manufacturers and processors, is sent out as pricier for consumers.
With AIs too, it used to be that at first they were a "nice additional installation" then preinstalled but "the default was off" & now they come preinstalled and even if you turn them "off" I've had them repeatedly turning themselves back on, mainly with "system updates".
