One of the fun little things I had to do recently was submit a list of objectives for my research. Which in this context meant telling my department what could be the possible industry applications could be for all of this work.

I suppose there's a certain amount of irony in that all of my long term relationships have ended because of academia and that I'm about to spend the rest of my life studying LGBTQ community building.

Just heard that my honorary research fellowship in History (now in School of Humanities, Social Sciences & Law) at #DundeeUniversity has been renewed again to summer 2025. Huge thanks to Dundee University for this. It helps me continue to be an active academic, publishing new research, despite my progressive neurological disease. My research advisor is truly trying his best to be a good ally. To the point that one of his google docs line edits today was labeled like "I still don't understand your topic but I like your interview questions".

As to why I mainly have professionals acquaintances and never experienced having friends, even as a child, I will say that I’m the kind of person that is kind of peeved about ‘generic’ and ‘store brand’ being used interchangeably.

Going to another queer resiliency book club meeting today. Which, in the past, has more or less just been a bunch of queer, disabled academics sitting in a room to talk about how much we don’t like being queer disabled academics living in the state of Florida.

One of the cruelest things my father ever said about me, in reference to my autism ADHD diagnosis, was that being an academic was the only thing that my mind was any good for. That I wasn't enough of a person to work in the world of my field (management), but I had enough of a natural analytical mind that I could be a great business researcher.
My family viewed me as unhuman/inhuman long before I found the words for it myself.

Going in-person tonight, for the first time in a very long time, to a disabled academics meeting.

Little bit of apprehension over the fact that my physical disabilities are not as visible as they were the last time many people saw me in person.

The main example being that I've stopped using a cane and switched over to wearing leg braces.

I've also found that my autism has become less observed, but I'm not bothered by that.

Facebook reminded me that 13 years ago today I put in alternative/disability arrangements request for my upcoming history #PhD #viva at #DundeeUniversity. Worked well: a #wheelchair accessible room and time limited viva cos of how confused & slurred speech I get after a while. Loved my viva. #neuro #disabledAcademic
