@gwensnyder I'm part of #DisabledTwitter and I've been evangelizing for Mastodon there, even using my paper.wf as a bio link after he blocked Masto. Many more of my Twitter friends are actually joining Post (where I also have a presence), despite the waiting list, because they find onboarding is easier. Twitter helped me enormously during the pandemic, so I hope he sells it before he burns it down.

Honestly I'm still on twitter b/c #BlackTwitter and #IndigenousTwitter and #DisabledTwitter are still there and I don't want to lose seeing their perspectives (and more!) in my timeline.

I just don't see that flourishing here yet.

So I'm there, reading, sharing people's good work, and shit posting about Musk. With an ad blocker.

But I do bring my cool new stuff here rather than there. It's a weird dual existence.

I'm not in any of these groups, but having listened to and learned from so many in the #BlackTwitter, #QueerTwitter, and #DisabledTwitter communities, I have some faint secondhand sense of the tragedy involved in them having to leave and rebuild.

If I leave 🐦, much of the value lost for me will be those voices, but if they leave, their loss will be much, much deeper. I hope that they find a new, better home, and I hope to find them again.

1/ I've been seeing too many tweets in the #birdsite saying "Mastodon is too complicated."

Conservatives have Truth Social, and Parler, and have taken over the birdsite. Elmo Husk's attack of the birdsite is a deliberate disrupter of #DisabledTwitter, #BlackTwitter, #RainbowTwitter, #EnviroTwitter, #TimesUp...a deliberate disrupter of that platform's power to help progressives organize.

@CassandraZeroCovid @Ted Fair point but the majority of us can & should be especially on #disabledtwitter 's behalf because I believe that is the only action that has worked in the past that actually changed anything irrespective of SM's influence. Right now they can keep it on the downlow, gaslight and deflect through the media that they own. That's not so if millions take to the streets but these days that seems like fanciful thinking. What happened to us? Ranting into a computer does nothing.

#disabledtwitter is pretty freaked out about losing that platform. And I'll miss the reach #medtwitter had. People are cataloging the ways that monumental organizing occurred esp through #BlackTwitter.

Mastadon isn't intuitive and a lot of people are are tired and overwhelmed trying to join and settle in here.

Like a smoldering city you love I'll stay to the bitter end (but as much to watch Musk go down in flamed as anything, if im honest)

Life being disabled: Two days ago, in order to clean (some of) the kitchen and bedroom, I moved a lot of kitchen and bedroom things into the living room.

Now we can't use the living room until I have the energy to put them all back.
