#1963 war ein wichtiges #Datum für mobilen Musikgenuß. Ich konnte nie viel mit #Kompaktkassetten anfangen. Der #Klang ist einfach zu schlecht. Mit dem #Discman kam für mich keine spürbare Besserung. Die Dinger springen zu gerne. Erst mit der #Minidisc war ich einigermaßen #zufrieden. Klanglich deutlich besser als die #MP3Player die es damals gab. Heute geht #Audiophil auch #mobil. Und das sogar SEHR #bezahlbar!

After a lot of overthinking (my specialty...), I settled on this setup for the #oldcomputerchallenge ... My regular laptop (a 2014 macbook air running essentially arch Linux) slowed down to one core and 512mb ram with the #NsCDE desktop for the retro feel, and music out of either a #discman or an #iPod 4th gen 😎

Ich wünsche mir von der #FDP, dass sie sich viel stärker für #Technologieoffenheit einsetzt!

The first CD I bought that was designed to be played on "random". Maybe the only one designed to be played on random.

@jens Wenn man sich mal das Geheule in den Gruppen so durchliest, scheint die #LP Qualität dramatisch gefallen zu sein. Klar kommt es auch immer auf die Ausgangsqualität an (garbage in, garbage out), aber die #MC, die ich zuletzt aufnahm, hört sich z.B. klasse an. Satt und warm und schon zur CD unterschiedlich. Außerdem hat ein #Walkman mehr Stil als ein #Discman (und kein Skipping). Aber auch da ist jeweils die Qualität des Abspielgerätes entscheidend. Wie aber auch bei #Vinyl.

When building a DIY cassette player for analog playback, you want to keep wow and flutter low. So I thought it might be worth to look at a broken Discman. It sure must have a good motor with some fancy speed regulation that could be used for driving the capstan in the cassette drive. But instead I just found the usual DC motor. At least I have a replacement motor for a personal stereo now ;) And the laser might come handy for measuring the RPM on the capstan.
