And yet, the readings and the cards continue to flummox me on a regular basis. Compared to other forms of #cartomancy, I continue to find this deck opaque. I struggle to find any meaning at all. And I think this is the message to take from the deck.

There is in fact no meaning to be found within perfect Chaos. There is no occult secret matrix underlying anything.

As some of you may have guessed, I've been doing some writing lately on constructing an ostensibly #Discordian interpretation of Buddhism. Of course I am aware that #Discordianism draws heavily from Zen, I'm just leaning into that. It's an exercise I'm doing mostly for myself, to help me to make sense of the time I spent in a cult, deconstruct that experience, and move forward using the knowledge that I did gain for something positive.

The work so far is largely concerned with rejecting the idea of spiritual authority wholesale, abandoning doctrine and tradition in favor of simply listening for the Capital-T Truth that I have been taught for so long is (a) universal and (b) available to all. Any such truth must be apparent to anyone, and must be present in everything, including jokes disguised as religions, and religions disguised as jokes.

I've been sharing a few insights here and I'll publish it eventually but I want to make clear that I do not speak with any kind of spiritual authority here. This is 99% for me, and 1% "someone may find this interesting or helpful."

Don't listen to me. Listen to your own Chaos-Buddha-Nature.

In traditional Buddhism, the three refuges represent the three aspects of practice: the teacher (Buddha), the teaching (Dharma), and the community (Sangha).

In #Discordian Buddhism there is no such hierarchy. Instead, Larry, Moe and Shemp (or Curly) represent the three stages of enlightenment.

- Moe, the know-it-all, the beginner
- Larry, who knows very little, the student
- Shemp/Curly, who knows nothing, the sage

In #Discordian Buddhism, we take refuge in the Three Stooges: Moe, Larry, and Shemp. Because Shemp was the best third stooge. If you want to replace Shemp with Curly or Curly Joe, go ahead. You're allowed to be wrong in Discordian Buddhism. You're even allowed to be offensively wrong, so if you like Joe Besser as the third stooge, knock yourself out. No, really.
