The thing that really bothers me about is the lack visibility re comments on posts. Not only are you not guaranteed to see all comments, but you are not even aware that you are missing parts of the conversation. I understand the technical difficulties, but damn I hope it can be fixed.

@eniko The question is: Do you think you'd benefit from ?

Most individuals won't but most commercial accounts - even if it's just some freelancer - do!

- open-source pkm tools need more onboarding. The fact that some initial strucure and opinion is found in the more "commercial" tools actually helps people get comfortable with them.

- we need and we need . We talk about letting structure emerge but donโ€˜t provide tooling (besides โ€žif you canโ€˜t spend ten minutes processing it donโ€˜t do it) to build structure later. Software tools that help end up being more comfortable.

Honestly, it's a pattern I keep chipping away it every time I see it to try and get people to break those bad habits of, you know, "I only have 280 characters" mindset (or even worse, just a flat-out cross-post). We have (at least) 500 characters here, and adding to your post will GREATLY increase it's and . You all have a unique audience here waiting to find you, so make sure they find you! Build it, with hashtags, and they will come. ๐Ÿ™‚

If you go the route on and have >= 100 photos and you want to spend a romantic evening alone uploading your own that no one understands, you'll likely hit a 429 limit in a bunch of spots. In order to get around this, I had to edit a few lines here: /var/www/html/<yoursite>/app/Http/Controllers/ComposeController.php

Back up the file, search for "429" and just comment out those lines. Revert when done. Still working on issues.

Well, I have a great new example of a complete lack of in an interface. I was very confused that these noise canceling headphones would have no controls for volume and playback, and only after searching the Internet for a manual did I find out that one half of one of these earpieces is touch sensitive for tapping and sliding your finger, and there is absolutely no visual indication that is the case.

it might be nice if there was a (such as or or ) that was geared towards personalized algorithmic . You could select from open source algorithms to give you curated timelines with different properties. Others could contribute pluggable algorithms or you could mix-and-match.

Is this a bad idea @atomicpoet@calkey.social?

It's not terribly dissimilar from various accounts that exist but leaves the user in control.

@Quilly See that part doesn't bother me because I moved here as soon as I found out about it from one of those big central .

If they really fix search and across the , then there won't be an issue with moving from the larger instances to smaller ones

@blakeheathsnow thank you for the updates.

May I suggest that you add hashtags to your posts.

That is the only way of discovery on mastodon, as people search & either follow or pin hashtags, as there is no algorithm to automatically suggest posts to users.

How do you use hashtags?

As Mastodon doesn't have a real search function, hashtags are some kind of opt-in discoverability feature. However, I am curious whether people actually really use them.

Please boost (usually I wouldn't ask you for that, but in this case it makes sense).

I think a lot of it stems from Mastodon users wanting to be searchable and discoverable but the only way to opt-in to this is unfortunately by using a lot of hash-tags. If toots were searchable this wouldn't be necessary.

The universeodon.com instance has implemented a custom feature for searching text in posts which I've been trying out and it's great. I'm all for discoverability without having to use hashtags as long as it respects those who choose not to be.

I'm hoping to see adoption of a way to fulltext search being implemented soon. ๐Ÿ˜Š It's being discussed over on GitHub.

Being able to find like minded and join interesting discussions is something most take for granted.

Instead of not having it, giving each user the option and a default setting depending on instance to opt-out or opt-in is the right way for implementation.
