Hij vestigde ook een record als DJ. non-stop vijf dagen, twee uur en acht minuten radio maken. Hij ondernam ik 1959 The Winter Dance Party tour met Buddy Holly en Ritchie Valens.
Een vliegtuigcrash tijdens die tournee liep fataal af.
