Blöd, dass #Displaylink ihre Treiber nur selbst und für Ubuntu verteilen, super geil, dass es ein Skript für #Debian und andere OS gibt. Hab die wie ein Höhlenmensch das HDMI Kabel an das Notebook anschließen müssen, obwohl ich eine Lenovo Ultradock im HomeOffice stehen habe. Läuft jetzt 1a :)

Well that's a bummer. My ASUS Zenbook S UX391UA can't run Linux properly. HDMI over USB-C doesn't work. I think it's using displaylink, and though Secure Boot is apparently disabled, video out tends to stop working after a fresh install. Tried installing Ubuntu and Fedora, displaylink on both, no luck. Maybe the right distro will work but I don't want to keep burning time on a hope. #linux #displaylink

I'm amazed that my 2012 iMac runs Ubuntu better than my Dell XPS 13 (Ubuntu edition). It "feels" quicker, smoother etc.

I have zero love however for #displaylink on #Linux chuggy, sticky and slow, however it's as smooth as silk on #chromeos

Today I confirmed
- #displaylink sucks
- a £5 Bluetooth adapter makes a difference
- Mini #displayport to #hdmi adaptors only take you so far
- My wife worries about "the flow" of my desk

@majorlinux oh, you should stay away from anything #DisplayLink like it's the plague. I have had nothing but headaches with my dock and will never buy a DisplayLink device again.

Edit: oh wait it's a thunderbolt dock but still has DisplayLink? Well anyway original reply for posterity.

@ndrei does Linux not have good #DisplayLink support or is the issue a lack of clear "you need to install this non-free driver" messaging?

Can usb-c docks without #DisplayLink support more than one monitor though? I thought it only embedded one #DisplayPort interface so you'd probably need a #thunderbolt hub with a GPU to not have to use DisplayLink and get two monitors out of the hub.

My #displaylink hub doesn't drive two monitors at full resolution. One is 1080p and gets full resolution. The other is WQHD in portrait but only gets displayed at a subset of that. I'm trying to only plug my laptop in with one wire. I wonder if I need to futz with settings, get a bigger/newer hub or just get a second single #DisplayLink DisplayPort adapter.

The hub is connected to a USB 3 port on my Phillips USB-C monitor. It drives just the WQHD display at full resolution fine. #techsupport

Use a USB-C dock for work, and for the longest time, I couldn't get #Arch to use the second monitor. But today I figured it out! Apparently, you just need to follow the instructions. LOL! (That's never been my strength)

Dock-ception the steam deck dock is connected to a Thinkpad DisplayLink to for the USB peripherals. Gaming via #DisplayLink is not advised if it even works. And now I only have switch one HDMI cable between docks #SteamDeck

I went to sleep at 3 am last night and that is only because #DisplayLink still exists. @nemo in the first place, do not buy hardware needing #displaylink drivers. They are crap and without support, even on Ubuntu the (recent, decent) machine directly crawls to death with this software installed.
As long as there are no proper free implementations that work: stay away from displaylink hardware.
Many docking stations are sickened by it , e.g. the Lenovo ones (watch out for everything with USB connector).
