LLMs, and the services built on top of them, most will become commodities.

The guy who used to peel potatoes with a knife was really glad the vegetable peeler was invented.

(In French I heard my grandmother call them "couteaux économes", essentially the knife that minimizes waste).

But those peelers quickly were mass-produced and became commodities. Essential! But cheap and abundant.

What's preserving LLMs from commodity pressures?

Right now, it seems there is a rare chance to learn from past mistakes, and create new lasting patterns for the benefit of the people using it (vs for the gain of another company created to exploit the weakness found in a dominant competitor)
