One cool thing about my current distrobox-based music production setup is that basically all of my music stuff (DAWs, WINE, windows/linux plugins, yabridge, etc.) now lives in an "audio-box" container with its own home directory.
And because of that I can easily rsync the entire thing to my other computers and everything basically just works. (Well, gotta make sure plugins are registered and fix a couple of broken WINE symlinks per prefix, but still...)

One thing I appreciate a lot in the #Fedora / #CentOS world: mock is kept up to date across supported releases, so you can easily do local builds for newer releases no matter what you use.
Meanwhile I'm trying to update an #Ubuntu #PPA and right now to do a `pbuilder` build for #mantic I have to be... on mantic itself.
Thank goodness for #distrobox !

In this post I go over how I declare my distroboxes in config files so I always have the right CLI environments ready to go!
https://www.ypsidanger.com/declaring-your-own-personal-distroboxes/
distrobox create --name ubuntu-latest --image docker.io/library/ubuntu:22.04 to validate and adapt the build of a cnf-rs before pushing to the github while using @opensuse
Still feels like a cheating to me π
Pro #Distrobox tip:
distrobox-upgrade --all will upgrade all of your distrobox containers at once.
Got a Dell #OptiPlex 7040M and going to try to install #Proxmox VE with #YunoHost and maybe throw in #NixOS in the mix.
Getting late, so this is a tomorrow project. There is also #DistroBox to look into...
All this partly because I started to run out of space on my daily driver. Sooo, why not move all the data to a local server π€£
Fun times ahead!

@passthejoe indeed. My main compile box is on an immutable distro - I mostly use it headless and just want something that is easy to maintain. My work laptop is not immutable for ... reasons, but on both my development environments are all in #Distrobox (using #Ansible to automate most of the setup)
Even if you don't run an #immutable system, you can still take advantage of things like #Toolbx and #Distrobox to set up alternate development environments.
My preference is to use Distrobox with a custom home directory so (theoretically anyway) config files don't mix in with those in the main system.
I just found #distrobox and thanks to @89luca89 for that ... where I can donate for a free esspreso ?
It's been a busy summer for https://universal-blue.org
This ended up being 34 minutes long! I think I have a mic issue, need to investigate but it resolves itself eventually:

I cover a TON of other software too, so this also ends up being my "cool tools that are on my radar" so buckle up! Can't wait to hear what people think about homebrew, heh.

Is a game changer.
Install a Debian or Ubuntu distro box to use apt.
Or an Arch box to use the AUR. π€―
For when things aren't available as #flatpak or as an rpm-ostree layer.
When #openSUSE #MicroOS & #distrobox teamed up, even containers couldn't contain their excitement π€ͺ. Find out what all the excitement is about at get.opensuse.org
@MsDropbear42
Of course, anyone can toot π
The #Arch repos + the #AUR offers anything one can imagine.
Heard about #distrobox - so far have not used it.
Might be a viable alternative.
I for now try to avoid vm's currently... otherwise FOMO will reign π
distrobox-upgrade --all
Seriously, #distrobox just keeps getting better and better the more I learn about it. This one upgrades every container you've created with one single command.
@ebits21 @Fbartels #Silverblue should replace #Toolbx with #Distrobox. Toolbx was first they had the idea, but now it is only inferior. I think Toolbx devolopers should abandon their project and just start to work on Distrobox.
I also agree that Silverblue should become fully declarative so that we can rebuild it with all layered packages, distroboxes, and flatpaks.
#silverblue #toolbx #distrobox
I made some experiments with this change and decided to put together a small blog article how #distrobox can be used https://blog.9wd.eu/posts/distrobox-assemble/
"How do I run another executable in distrobox from another distrobox?"
Here is an explainer of how to do it
#distrobox #fedora #opensuse #podman
This looks like a really nice new features for #distrobox assemble. https://github.com/89luca89/distrobox/commit/a9c94388bfc0132694fa3b426c7d2ab46bc11402 now you can not only export GUI apps, but also cli applications, and even automate this through a simple manifest.
I'm not good at troubleshooting Ubuntu issues.
Nvidia issue?
What I can say is:
#uBlue has images for Nvidia users for easy peasy gaming on Linux.
Baked in drivers out of box hardware acceleration etc.
#silverblue
https://fedoraproject.org/silverblue/
#universalblue
https://universal-blue.org/images/
The neat thing about rpm-ostree is how easy rolling back or pinning deployments is for if any issues ever happen.
#distrobox is neat for things not available as #Flatpak or layered.
