so about 20 some odd years ago when i was in my third act trying (and humiliating myself) to be "Web Guy", i took up my web publisher friend's offer to try out his startup proprietary music distro platform. and there my music stayed. there were a lot of reasons it was not that effective, among them requiring people to download an app (before everybody and their cousin demanded you download their app, so in that sense my friend was ahead of his time) - and honestly there was some self sabotage involved, because i'm one of those artists who's neurotic about being exposed vs. being ignored, constantly veering between irrational extremes. i'm certifiably clinically diagnosable as paranoid, so of course i trust no one, least of all myself. anyway, over the weekend i deleted about 15-18 years of uploads, and signed up for . i'll be putting some shit up there in the next couple days, and will share a link. hopefully no one will be confused about who has the right to distribute my intellectual property. (bad exp. with there!) wish me luck. this is act 5? or 6? or perhaps 6.2 ... last time i wrote, recorded, & uploaded a song was 2019. before covid. so, only 4 years and yet seemingly like 4,000 years ago

@PackardMoose @Zolees It's really not that much more per play than in the grand scheme of things. You still have to somehow get to thousands of plays per month to even break even with publication fees from services like . is definitely a great reason to go with , but the payment schedule is still overall a bust. Buying direct from artist on on is a much better way to put money in an artist's pocket for their music.

Compared to , or it seems to be very small and expensive, but its quite competitive if you are already a member of ... 0€ annual fee and you keep 90% of royalties. Plus with as PRO you automatically collect those royalties as well.
So I consider becoming member of gema and then publish with .
But as I never published anything before, I'm happy for all opinions or tipps...
