@gruber you and Ben need to do a special episode on watches. Make it a #Dithering member perk, I dunno… but make it longer than 15 minutes…
The first thing I would try is muting the #MasterBus, leaving all the other settings the same, rendering a silent version of the same track, uploading it, and checking if the hum persists. If so, then the problem is probably somewhere in your #rendering chain, and you can start making minor tweaks, one at a time, to find the culprit by process of elimination. Some examples of minor tweaks I'd try:
- the #SampleRate and #BitDepth (e.g. 48/24)
- the #dithering settings (e.g. on/off, type/style, etc.)
- the file type (e.g. #WAV, #AIFF, #FLAC, #ALAC)

So, if Gouraud algorithm is so simple, why didn't more games use it?
Well, the first reason would be a limited color palette. Most old systems did not have enough colors to output a smooth interpolation of values per face.
A popular option in limited color palette was #dithering.
Dithering "fakes" a smooth color transition by playing with pixel patterns.
Only two colors could blend into a pixelated smooth output.
But there’s a limit to what we can achieve with dithering in a low-res system!
So I have been thinking a little bit about why I wasn't super happy with the piece I made this morning and I think it that I set far too low of a resolution for this, but also that the source image is not really good for my skill level with those restrictions.
To test this, I have included here the source image, my hand-drawn 96x128 1bit piece, a Floyd-Steinberg dithered 96x128, and a Floyd-Steinberg dithered 384x512 (the lowest res that reads as a beach).

Tried playing with some dither textures this morning to recreate a beach scene from a photograph. Not entirely happy with it, but I wanted to practice using 1-bit textures and working in a low-res canvas.
I do think it reads and I'm glad to have put some time in to practice. I would like to especially improve my ability to dither more organically, something that looks more like error-diffusion dithering
