The joys of #cycling on offroad bikepaths, still not safe from the #marvellous #melbourne #motorist

With an impressive piece of driving, a motorist heading Sth on Murrumbeena rd mistakes the #DjerringTrail for Neerim rd and attempts the "quick I'll just hook right in here while there's a gap in the oncoming traffic" Big crunch as she drives into the kerb, looks up, sees me, frantically flaps hands about mouthing "sorry/shit", pulls back out and tears off down the wrong side of Murrumbeena rd past stopped cars to the lights, then into the intersection and pulls in front of the cars wating to turn right, then switches on her right indicator. Me and the guy walking on the path near her look at each other, his "WTF was that!" pretty much sums it up

Done my good deed for the day, fixed up a 6yo's bike after he stacked at the stacking-spot on the #djerringtrail outside our house

He'd put his front wheel off the 8cm lip on the edge of the path and face-planted on the concrete. It's a hazard installed by January's railway crossing rebuild that seems to claim a pedestrian or #cyclist a week

@ameel and if you are a #cyclist that uses the #djerringtrail, or a pedestrian who uses the ped. level xing, did you know that "metro tunnel" are closing the trail & xing through Hughesdale from tomorrow, until the end of january. Their notices telling people about the two month closure went up yesterday!

Yesterday I volunteered for BN's "Super Sunday' survey, spent 3hrs sitting beside the #djerringtrail and counted people. Columns on my tick sheet for bikes, walkers, runners, dog-walkers, micro-mobility (eg e-things), and other.

Under other... well I had two people in animal onesies came and ran back and forth across the railway crossing filming themselves

Ah, Saturday on the #djerringtrail. Two illegally off-leash dogs barking & fighting, one owner frantically trying to retrieve her "fur baby", the other stating "Nah, she's just friendly/excitable." Meanwhile one of the local dickheads on a 2stroke mtb buzzzes past up the bikepath in a cloud of noxious blue smoke
