#Klima #Berufsorientierung #Schule

This is #ICON-Sapphire: a version of ICON developed at MPI-M with the support of #DKRZ to run at (sub)kilometer resolutions. At theses scales, we can get rid of parameterisations of convection, resolve mesoscale ocean eddies, and see interactions of small and large scales governing our climate.
In this flagship paper bit.ly/3IcNxnV we showcase our highest-resolution-ever fully-coupled Earth System Model. Find out why we've done it, how we've done it, and what we've achieved. #ClimateModel #ICON

Today we introduce you to René Redler. René is a scientific programmer and an important part of our institute #MPIM. He has his focus on #Earth System modeling at kilometer scale, contributes to projects such as #nextGEMS, and with his colleagues at #DKRZ and our institute he is working at the forefront of what is technically feasible #HPC.

50 years ago the famous #NASA #BlueMarble photo was taken and changed our perspective on Earth. We ourselves were able to simulate the fully coupled #climate system at the scale of a km in October this year. Now, together with the German Climate Computing Center #DKRZ and NVIDIA #NVIDIAOmniverse, we simulated the iconic photo to celebrate this achievement.
Find the #visualization video, detailed information on the simulation, and the model on our website: https://mpimet.mpg.de/en/communication/news/single-news/page?tx_news_pi1%5Bnews%5D=1648&cHash=f051b796251535976ab2ea96d7fb3be9

The #PalMod project investigates the #climate system and its variability during the last #glacial cycle using complex #EarthSystemModels. Read more about the project here: https://mpimet.mpg.de/en/communication/focus-on/translate-to-englisch-grossforschungsprojekt-palmod-was-haben-wir-gelernt
F. Ziemen from the German Climate Computing Center #DKRZ created this animation, which shows the development of sea surface salinity.
