I've also worked in telecoms (1990s-early 2000s) and can also appreciate the changes in the #technology. Still have nightmares about switching the #DLI programming from #CAS to #DASS - and then priority #messagerouting! Fun and games to be sure.

A long time ago I spent a year at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California learning Russian and then never used it much afterwards.
I have started using Duolingo (iPhone app) once a day and am surprised how much I remember as well as learning new vocabulary.
I don't pay for it, so there are a fair amount of adds, but not enough that dissuades me for continuing to use it.
