#dmn works a bit like ducking in audio recording. When nobody’s talking, the equipment starts to pick up and amplify all the ambient noise, it might get pretty loud.

As soon as somebody makes a sound, all the background noise is immediately suppressed. DMN is most active when you’re not focused on doing anything intentional. When you daydream—that’s DMN amplifying the noise.

Had a chat earlyer today about Non-Sleep Deep Rest ( #NSDR ), how I understand it to work (it has to do with Default Mode Network or #DMN), and it's benefits to #adhd.

Continuing in a speculative mode, I think the connections between the default mode network and rumination are relevant here. In the space of episodic recollection and imagination, the #DMN is biased towards top-down and/or intrinsic processes. During depression, there is far too much rumination. Activating the 'task on' mode counters this. Transcranial magnetic simulation of Area 46 (dlPFC) may tilt the balance away from the DMN.
